Cabanas de Tavira
We hope this page about Cabanas de Tavira in Tavira Region is useful for our Holiday rentals seekers.
The history of Cabanas dates back to the year 1734, the date on which the tuna structure started its activity and originated the creation of the first huts, indispensable for the collection of fishing equipment and the expansion of the company. For more than 20 years references were made to the huts only as a seasonal residence, however, only around 1757/58, did some fishermen choose to build their homes on a permanent basis.
Strongly linked to fishing arts, this parish has an area of 3,480 hectares and has a population of 1,081 inhabitants (2011 censuses), although this number increases considerably during the summer season, as a result of the high tourist development of the village.
On June 21, 1997, Cabanas was constituted as a parish, after being detached from Conceição and, on April 19, 2004, it was elevated to a village.
The seat of this parish is the village itself and its patron saint is Nossa Senhora do Mar.
Currently, the parish is still engaged in fishing, contributing to the enrichment of local cuisine, with products such as tuna, razor clams, shellfish and clams. Although closely linked to this activity, Cabanas also lives on tourism, being the parish of the municipality that receives more visitors throughout the year.
Today, Cabanas offers all those who visit it a rich natural heritage, through its fauna and flora, which combined with the diversified offer of accommodation and restaurants, provides everyone with moments of well-being and satisfaction. Cabanas beach is an extensive 7 km long sandy beach, having been a blue flag since 1989. Avenida Ria Formosa, recently refurbished, provides a picturesque environment, from which you can contemplate the estuary and the coast.
