With an ancient history, this picturesque fishing village has been growing in recent years as a nerve center for tourism in the municipality of Lagoa, in the Algarve. Located about 5 km from the city of Lagoa, the village of Carvoeiro offers a set of small beaches cut by rocky cliffs, with clear waters and fine sand,
forming paradisiacal summer places that become suitable for residential tourism that has emerged in recent times.

In fact, since time immemorial, Carvoeiro has been the target of several civilizational attentions. In this magnificent stretch of the Algarve coast, where Nature has done wonders, the sea was the last home for Romans,
victims of naval battles and storms, whose traces found (a Roman stump and an anchor) prove our presence.

As a consequence of the frequent attacks of piracy, several battles were fought along the coast, namely the battle that took place in 1544 between D. Pedro da Cunha’s squadron and the Turkish corsair Xarramet.
According to historical sources, the current place name of the village was derived from the word “Caboiere”, an old fishing village of Arab-medieval origin, which, resisting the signs of the time, managed to avenge itself.

Fishing, since ancient times, has been the livelihood and livelihood of these lonely places.
